Volkanovski is considered by many the best active pound-for-pound fighter in the world. It's a conversation he's in with the likes of heavyweight champ Jon Jones and lightweight champ Islam Makhachev. Volkanovski returns to defend his featherweight throne after making a strong account of himself up a weight class in a loss to Makhachev. Awaiting to challenge Volkanovski's rule is Rodriguez, a dynamic striker who finished Josh Emmett to earn his place at the top.
Saturday's co-main event is another title tilt. Flyweight champ Brandon Moreno emerged victorious in a historic quadrilogy against Deiveson Figueiredo only to meet another familiar foe. Alexandre Pantoja has two prior victories over Moreno: one professional UFC fight and an exhibition bout on "The Ultimate Fighter." Both fighters have matured drastically since. Moreno is the betting favorite, but can he finally overcome Pantoja?
Other fighters to keep an eye on include standout collegiate wrestler Bo Nickal, former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker and retiring former UFC welterweight champ Robbie Lawler.
Entering the octagon with an impressive 25-2 record, Volkanovski had his 22-fight winning streak snapped when he lost to Islam Makhachev via unanimous decision at UFC 284. Alexander’s only other defeat came at the hands of Corey Nelson at an Australian Fighting Championship event in May of 2013.
Rodríguez (15-3) captured the interim championship by defeating Josh Emmett at UFC 284. Yair last felt the sting of defeat at a UFC Fight Night event in November of 2021, losing to Max Holloway in a unanimous decision. Which fighter will exit UFC 290 as the unified featherweight champion? We’re about to find out.

TWO BELTS ARE on the line this weekend at UFC 290 — the culmination of International Fight Week in Las Vegas.
UFC Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski and interim titleholder Yair Rodríguez head up the UFC 290 card, while Brandon Moreno and Alexandre Pantoja will face off for Moreno’s flyweight belt in a co-main bout. The wait is finally over for UFC 290, with a pair of title fights and an array of other fantastic matchups set to take place tonight (July 8) as part of International Fight Week at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The night’s main event will see Alexander Volkanovski return to the featherweight division after challenging lightweight champion Islam Makhachev at UFC 284. “The Great” has already defended his title four times, but now he’ll be tasked with defeating Yair Rodriguez after “El Pantera" claimed the division’s interim title on the same night that Volkanovski tried to become a two-division champion.
All fighters successfully made weight for their scheduled bouts except for Jalin Turner, who missed the lightweight limit by two pounds and will be fined 20% of his purse.
The welterweight matchup between Jack Della Maddalena and Josiah Harrell was unfortunately scrapped after weigh-ins due to Harrell’s pre-fight medical screening, but all other bouts will proceed as scheduled.
